My artistic approach must be seen as an attempt to bring poetic writing and plastic art together. The media, tools and supports used have been diverted from their original function : by necessity to reappropriate materials whose different uses and multiple stories are no longer questioned.
Laurette Succar is a painter, visual artist and writer, living and working in Paris (France).
Born in Beirut (Lebanon), she studied Philosophy and Aesthetics at the Sorbonne University Paris and taught Philosophy in High School.
She is the author of numerous collections of poetry, artist's books and object books.
For many years, the medium "spices" has been at the heart of her artistic concerns: it refers to her own cultural background and connects individual to collective memory. Her palette is composed of 25 spices treated with a particular technique that allows to preserve the differences of colors, scents and texture. Finally, spices have a strong symbolic charge. The invitation to travel has yet to be assumed and transmitted; the links between generations, peoples and cultures remain to be woven.
Poetry and painting become entangled in singular works where the words are sculpted and the features are chanted. In the light of the throbbing theme of memory, her work continues to question the flaw, forgetting and the conditions of a possible transmission.
Her work - paintings, drawings and installations - are regularly exhibited in France and abroad (Germany, England, Belgium, Moroco) and found in public and private collections. Her artist's books are part of prestigious Collections including La Bibliothèque Nationale de France, Paris.
